“We’re confident we’ll have more leases secured once the Publix store opens,” said Martin Smith, director of project leasing for Retail Specialist, who is working to help fill the retail shops next to the Publix supermarket. “We’re excited about the new Publix store opening. Once retailers see the parking lot full of cars, they will want to move there.”
Publix is slated to have its grand opening Aug. 31.
Smith said the national hair salon chain Great Clips and Nail Boutique & Spa are locating at the shopping center next to Publix.
He said it could be a couple of weeks after the Publix opening before the two new businesses open their doors.
Smith said retailers are slow in opening new store locations, but there is a lot of interest in the South Park Shopping Center at 2040 Martin St. S.
He said Retail Specialist is talking to 10 different retailers about the shopping center.
“The interest is very high,” Smith said.
He said there is a Phase 2 planned once Publix opens and the current retail spaces are leased to retailers.
Phase 2 of construction includes an additional building along the south side of the shopping center parking lot. The new building will provide an additional 9,000 square feet of retail space at South Park Shopping Center.
There are also two commercial out parcels available that front U.S. 231.
The Bojangles’ Famous Chicken N. Biscuits restaurant is already in operation at one of the three commercial lots that front U.S. 231 in the South Park Shopping Center.
Publix anchors the 13-acre shopping center, and the store has hired more than 100 people in preparation of the store opening.
