The election will determine the successor to state Rep. Owen Drake, who lost his battle with cancer in early June.
St. Clair County Probate Judge Mike Bowling said only two precincts in St. Clair County will vote in this election.
“That covers a portion of Moody and a portion of the Leeds part of St. Clair County,” Bowling said. “There are 1,520 registered voters in the Cedar Grove box, which is Precinct 30. There are 516 registered voters in the Moody area, Precinct 17.
“All total, there are just a little over 2,000 registered voters in St. Clair County who can vote in this election if they choose.”
Bowling said the district also includes some voters in Jefferson County.
Voters in Moody will go to Moody City Hall, while Leeds voters will go to Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
“That was a new precinct the St. Clair County Commission created at the last election,” Bowling said. “It took some of the load off the Moody precinct, and it should also help out with the next presidential election as well.”
The polls will be open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 30.
There are three Republican candidates in the primary: Tommy Joe Alexander, Dickie Drake and Michael Sumners. If there is a run-off, it will be Oct. 11.
The general election will be held Nov. 29.
The one Democratic candidate is Paige Parnell.
Bowling said tabulations of the vote of the two precincts and the absentees will be tabulated at the Ashville annex building in the Probate Office.
“It will be done that night of the election, and that’s where the returns will come in also,” Bowling said.
