Three adults and four children were injured in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 20 Monday afternoon.

Pell City Fire Chief Patrick Draper said the accident happened shortly before 5 p.m. on I-20 eastbound almost under the U.S. 231 Bridge.

“The vehicle overturned for several hundred feet before coming to a rest on its top,” he said.

Draper said one adult and one child were entrapped in the vehicle, and one adult and one child were ejected from the vehicle.

“We were able to extricate the two entrapments in about 20 minutes,” he said.

Draper said one adult was transported to University Hospital in Birmingham by LifeSaver helicopter. The other two adults were transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Birmingham by Regional Paramedical Services.

He said one of the children was transported to Children’s Hospital of Alabama Birmingham by LifeSaver helicopter. The other three children were transported by ambulance to Children’s Hospital of Alabama Birmingham by Regional Paramedical Services.

Further information about the condition of any of the injured adults and children was not immediately available Monday afternoon.

Draper said the Pell City Fire Department, Pell City Police Department, Riverside Volunteer Fire Department, Riverside Police Department, Wattsville Volunteer Fire Department, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and the Alabama State Troopers all assisted with the accident.

The accident is under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
