While Ragland’s public library waits for a decision on damages from its insurance adjuster, librarian Patricia Poe is moving ahead to resume library services in temporary quarters.

Mayor Lanis White, the town council and the library board are behind her all the way.

“We appreciate everything she does,” White said. “Her work is not going unnoticed.”

While it will take some time to rebuild the library’s book collection, Poe said she can replace the 11 computers as soon as she has a place to put them.

Also high on her list is restoring the children’s Summer Reading Program. “We still want to do something for the kids and have a little fun for them,” she said. She’s asked to use the town council chambers for that, and the mayor and council agreed.

We commend Poe for moving quickly to restore library services and the mayor and council for remembering the library amid the chaos of the storm’s aftermath.
