Jay Brown, a familiar figure in St. Clair County, started off his week by taking a new job. As of Monday, he is the head football coach at Moody High School.

Brown was the unanimous choice of the six St. Clair County School Board members attending the meeting Monday. He had been recommended by a selection committee who considered 146 applicants. The committee said that Brown quickly rose to the top of the list and stayed there throughout the interview process.

By all accounts, he will be a good fit at Moody, and he should feel right at home. He has spent a large portion of his life in this area.

For the last nine years, he was the head football coach at Pell City High. He’s coached for a total of 27 years, including 11 years as an assistant coach at Jacksonville State University. He even graduated from Oxford High School, just a short jaunt down I-20 from his new assignment.

Of course, it is a change, and with change comes the excitement of new challenges. Brown says he’s ready to meet them.

“We’re excited about being part of this community,” he said. “I can’t wait to get started.”
