A former Riverside dentist was indicted for six counts of identify theft and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

A grand jury returned the indictments against Rick Mitchell, 42, of 408 Easonville Drive in Cropwell.

St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Investigator Rick Oliver said Mitchell turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Department in Pell City Feb. 3. He was released on bond shortly after his arrest.

An initial court date is set for March.

Oliver said the arrest stems from a previous investigation.

“The grand jury heard the case and returned the six-count indictment,” Oliver said. “He was arrested for identity theft and possession of a controlled substance.”

Investigators Randy Hurst and Bart Lonergan assisted in the investigation, as did Stan McAdams, an investigator with the Alabama State Dental Board.

“Because this is an ongoing investigation, I am unable to release any more information at this time,” Oliver said.
