A house fire in Ragland took the life of a 46-year-old man. The incident happened Sunday.

St. Clair County Deputy Coroner Jeremiah Gilreath said the 911 call came in at 11:05 a.m. The fire took place in the 5000 block of Valley Road.

“Although the body found inside the home has not been positively identified, we believe it is Robert Lane Trammell,” Gilreath said. “The reason the body has not been positively identified is because of the winter storm and not being able to get to Huntsville.”

Gilreath said as soon as possible, the body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for positive identification.

Gilreath pronounced the man dead at 2:04 p.m. and the cause of death at this time is undetermined.

The Ragland police and fire departments were both on the scene as were the Alabama State Fire Marshals. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department responded also.

Ragland fire chief Steven Bishop said when he arrived at the scene, the dwelling was fully involved.

“This was a trailer with an addition built on to it,” Bishop said. “It is a total loss and it burned to the ground. It is still under investigation.”

Bishop said they had three trucks on the scene.

Gilreath said the State Fire Marshals are working on determining the cause of the fire.
