A Green Wave washes over the plains of Auburn today, and on its crest could be another state football championship for Leeds High School.

The game between Leeds and Hamilton in the history-steeped Jordan-Hare Stadium is the finale of a season so far unblemished by loss on either side. Both teams enter the field with perfect 14-0 records.

Leeds has scored 505 points over the course of 14 games, but has given up only 70. The seniors have attained the most wins and best record of any group of players in the school’s history — 48 wins against eight losses over four years, with one more on the line today.

Head coach Keith Etheredge has watched his seniors mature from boys to young men over the course of four seasons. “…I’ve been able to coach these guys from the ninth grade up,” Etheredge said. “I’ve watched these kids turn into young men. They have done such a great job of taking on all that responsibility. They’ve relished in it and love it.”

Congratulations to coach Etheredge and all the players on the team for making it to the championship game. Lots of folks across central Alabama will be wearing green Thursday.
