St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell said Monday that Justin Clowdus, 29, was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:25 p.m. Russell ruled the cause of death as head trauma.
According to the Alabama Department of Public Safety, Highway Patrol Division, in Birmingham, the accident happened at about 1 p.m. on Rabbit Branch Road, six miles south of Pell City.
Russell said it appeared the 1994 Chevrolet Trailblazer Clowdus was driving left the roadway and struck a tree.
The accident is still under investigation.
