The Leeds Green Wave girls won the Class 3A, Area 7 title last week beating Indian Springs and Calera. In the three games, Leeds outscored its opponents 34-0.The second-ranked Green Wave improved to 31-8 overall as they get set to host the sub-state playoffs.
Leeds 15, Indian Springs 0
Kayla Blanchard (13-4) tossed a two-hit shutout over four innings as Leeds easily defeated Indian Springs 15-0. Blanchard, who was named the tournament MVP, walked one and struck out four. She also went 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Lauren Green was also a perfect 3-for-3 with a single, double and home run, scored three runs and had five RBIs.
Ryan Ashley hit a two-run home run while Shea Driggers had two hits, scored three runs and drove in three runs.
Leeds 11, Calera 0
Laci Driggers improved to 15-4 on the season as she gave up only one hit in five innings as the Green Wave defeated Calera 11-0. She walked four and struck out 11.
Shea Driggers was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and drove in three runs for the day.
Abbie Ellison, Blanchard, Green and Laura Whitehead all had two hits each.
Leeds coach Jeff Thomas said he has been proud of Laci and Kayla all season.
“Neither one of them had ever pitched before this season,” Thomas said.
Leeds 8, Calera 0
In the championship game, Leeds defeated Calera again, this time by a score of 8-0. Blanchard (14-4) picked up the win giving up two hits over seven innings of work. She walked two and struck out seven.
Shelby Goff was 3-for-4 with three doubles and she drove in four runs. Blanchard and Ellison had two hits each.
Named to the All-Area Team were Kayla Blanchard (MVP), Laci Driggers, Shea Driggers, Lauren Green and Shelby Goff.
The Green Wave girls hosted Montgomery Catholic this past Tuesday in the best two-out-of-three series in the opening round of the state playoffs.
