The Hewitt-Trussville Lady Huskies had no problem winning the Class 6A, Area 13 Tournament last week. As a matter of fact, they dominated in all three phases of the game — pitching, hitting and defense.They outscored three opponents 51-2 and now find themselves hosting the first round of the sub-state playoffs.
Hewitt-Trussville 23, Shades Valley 1
After easily beating Huffman 18-0 in the opening round of the area tournament, the Lady Huskies pounded out 25 hits in a 23-1 victory over Shades Valley in five innings.
Stephanie Needham, Amanda Dailey and Emily Johnson all hit home runs in the win. Jordan McCulley improved to 23-5 as she gave up two hits over three innings. Mary Claire Carruth pitched the final two innings of no-hit ball and gave up and an unearned run.
With the win, Hewitt-Trussville improved to 38-10.
Hewitt-Trussville 10, Pinson Valley 1
Hewitt-Trussville scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to beat Pinson Valley 10-1 in the championship game.
Dailey was 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs while Jessica Jackson was 3-for-4 with a double and home run. She also drove in three runs.
Carruth pitched six innings and gave up just two hits while striking out nine. It was her eighth win of the season.
Hewitt-Trussville played host to fourth-ranked Pelham this past Tuesday in the opening round of the sub-state playoffs.
