The season came to a close for the Moody Blue Devils Friday as they lost to Mortimer Jordan in two straight games in the opening round of the state playoffs.Mortimer Jordan 2, Moody 1
Drew Peoples pitched a great game but the Blue Devils were on the short end of the stick, 2-1. Peoples tossed a complete game, had no walks and struck out five. He gave up seven hits and both runs were unearned.
Moody scored its lone run in the sixth inning.
“We had our chances but could not get the base hit with men in scoring position,” said Moody coach Ralph Greaux. “We hit the ball hard right at people.”
Mortimer Jordan 11, Moody 6
The second game was completely different as 17 runs crossed home plate and unfortunately, Moody scored only six of them in the 11-6 loss to end the season.
The big inning for Moody was the fifth inning when they scored all six of their runs.
Defensively, they made six errors and Mortimer Jordan collected 13 hits.
Pitcher Nathan Clowdus had eight strikeouts and only one walk in the loss.
“We fell a little short,” said Greaux. “Making the playoffs was a great accomplishment for our team. We had 12 new players and the entire infield was sophomore players. We played a much tougher schedule this year but accomplished something that many schools did not — going to the state playoffs. We must build on that and start getting ready to make another run for the state championship next season.”
