Monday’s Bryant-Jordan Awards dinner at the Sheraton in Birmingham had three students with St. Clair County ties.

Regional Bryant-Jordan winners were Jarod Brock and Trent Cox from Ragland and Kaitlyn Tribble from Springville. Brock and Tribble were both regional achievement award winners while Cox was the regional scholar-athlete award winner.

Jarod Brock

Brock is an 18-year-old senior at Ragland. His principal, Jeff Hardy, said it’s a great honor to have your name mentioned with Bear Bryant and Shug Jordan.

“We are very proud of Jarod,” Hardy said. “He has overcome a lot of hardships many people do not know about.”

Hardy said Brock is one of the finest athletes to ever walk the halls of Ragland High School.

Trent Cox

Cox is the 18-year-old son of Andy and Krystal Cox of Ragland. His award was based on academics and athletics. He has a 4.0 GPA.

“Trent is a fine young man,” Hardy said. “He plays football and basketball and works very hard in the classroom. He displays outstanding character, morals and values. His parents have done a super job raising him. He is a pleasure to be around.”

Katelyn Tribble

Tribble is the 18-year-old daughter of Tommy and Roxanne Saffles of Springville and the late Brian Tribble. A great musician, Brian was murdered in 1997 at Centercrest Baptist Church where he served as minister of music and associate pastor.

Springville High Principal Robert Harris said Tribble had all the traits the Bryant-Jordan judges were looking for. Monday.

“It just re-enforced my reasons for recommending her,” Harris said. “She has been able to accomplish a high level of academics as well as athletics through a very strange occurrence early in her life.”

Harris said Tribble could have used the tragedy with her dad as a crutch to go the other way but she used it as a way to lift herself up.
