Springville girls gearing up for stretch run

The Springville Lady Tigers have stepped up their level of play another notch as they are currently 18-9-1 overall and ranked No. 8 in the state in Class 5A.

Recent victories have come over Top 10 teams in the state such as Corner. They battled another Top 10 team, East Limestone, to a 0-0 tie during a tournament. They have also defeated Spain Park twice and Tuscaloosa County.

Springville 18, Spain Park 0

The Lady Tigers took advantage of six Spain Park errors and some timely hitting to blast the Lady Jaguars 18-0 recently.

Springville scored 12 runs in the first inning and six more in the second inning.

Taylor Earley had three hits, scored two runs and knocked in four more to lead the Lady Tigers. Katelyn Tribble also drove in four runs with two hits including a double. Lauren Beason had two hits, scored three runs and drove in another, while Brittany Burgett had two hits and scored one run. Brittany Jones had a hit, scored two runs and drove in two, while Haley Garrison had a hit and scored twice. Savanna Hennings and Tanner Earley had run-scoring singles, while Rianna Wilson reached on a hit and later scored.

Hennings improved to 13-7 on the year as she pitched three innings of one-hit ball striking out six along the way.

Vestavia Hills 4, Springville 0

Springville was shutout 4-0 by Vestavia Hills, who are ranked third in the state in Class 6A. The Lady Rebels scored three runs in the third inning and one in the fifth inning.

Springville managed only two hits, a double by Beason and a single by Taylor Earley. The Lady Tiger defense committed four errors.

Hennings tossed a complete game and gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits. She walked two and struck out four.

Springville 1, Corner 0

Hennings tossed a complete game two-hitter striking out 16 along the way in the 1-0 win. Beason scored the only run of the game on a hit by Tribble. Taylor Earley and Haley Garrison also had hits for Springville.

Springville 0, East Limestone 0

In the Bo Jones Tournament in Huntsville, the Lady Tigers and East Limestone battled to a 0-0 draw. Hennings pitched five innings of one-hit ball and struck out 12 of the 15 batters she faced.

Tribble, Burgett and Taylor Earley had hits for Springville.

Springville 5, Tuscaloosa County 1

Springville coach Chris Williams called this the best game his girls have played all season as the Lady Tigers upended Tuscaloosa County 5-1.

Hennings gave up one hit and one run over four innings of work and struck out seven. She walked three as she improved to 15-8-1 on the year.

Garrison drove in three runs with two hits, including a double. Tribble also had two hits. Beason had a run-scoring hit, while Sydne Waldrop scored two runs, and Tanner Earley scored one run.

“Tuscaloosa County is a very good 6A team,” Williams said. “I am proud of the way all of the girls performed. I hope this is the start of a very strong finish to our season.”

Springville 9, Spain Park 0

Hennings continued to master the mound as she struck out 18 of 21 Spain Park hitters and tossed a two-hit shutout in the 9-0 win. She walked one and improved to 16-8-1 on the season.

Kirsten Gipson was 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, while Taylor Earley, Tanner Earley, Hennings and Burgett all had hits.
