The Moody Blue Devils and Springville Tigers headed into area play this past Tuesday tied for first place with identical records of 3-1. Moody got to that position by blasting Anniston 25-0 and 22-0.
Moody 25, Anniston 0
The Blue Devils erupted for 18 hits led by four each from Tyler Hamby and Chris Grant and easily defeated Anniston 25-0. Hamby drove in four runs while Grant and Drew Peoples had three RBIs each.
Carson Key and Travis Gann were both 2-for-2 while Michael Nichols was 2-for 4.
Nathan Clowdus and Peoples combined for nine strikeouts and one hit.
Moody 22, Anniston 0
Just when you think the Blue Devils could not hit the ball any better, they had 23 hits in the 22-0 victory over Anniston in the second game. Brandon Watson, Hamby, Grant and Beau Reyer all had three hits to pace Moody. Hamby, Nichols, Reyer and Gann all hit home runs. Nichols, Gann, Peoples, Chris Grant and Bart Watson all had two hits each.
Reyer tossed a complete game two-hitter and struck out 11 in five innings.
“Reyer was outstanding and pitched extremely well,” said Moody pitcher Ralph Greaux. “We hit the ball very well.”
Briarwood 12, Moody 11
Nichols hit a grand slam in the first inning as the Blue Devils opened up a 4-0 lead but they were unable to hold on and lost 12-11. Briarwood scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game,
