In a wild slugfest, the St. Clair County Saints scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Ragland 16-15 recently.The Purple Devils led 2-0, 6-2, 7-5 and 15-14 but was unable to protect none of the leads.
The Saints scored seven runs in bottom of the third inning to take a 12-7 lead but Ragland scored three runs in the fourth inning, one in the fifth inning and four in the sixth inning to regain the lead 15-14 before the Saints scored twice in the seventh inning to win the game.
Hanssen Jones picked up the win in relief to improve to 3-0 on the season. He came on in the fifth inning and gave up five runs on two hits. He walked two and struck out three. Brantley Campbell started on the mound for the Saints and he went four innings and gave up 10 runs on six hits, walked two and struck out six.
Weslee Franklin and Ian Kennedy both had three hits each and each drove in three runs. But it was Scott Easterwood’s two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out that gave the Saints the victory.
Leading the Purple Devils was Kurt Lipscomb who had three hits, scored three runs and had five RBIs. Jamarcus Embry and Caleb Crews had two hits each and scored three runs apiece. J.T. Caldwell and Corey Broome had one hit each that drove in two runs each.
Camden Higginbotham started on the mound for Ragland and went one inning giving up five runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out one.
Cameron Hazelwood worked the next three innings and gave up seven runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out two. Eli Honeycutt worked the final three innings and gave up two runs on one hit. He walked four and struck out five.
With the win, SCCHS improved to 13-6.
Ragland 1, Appalachian 0
After giving up 16 runs to SCCHS, the Purple Devils clinched the area title by edging Appalachian 1-0. Kurt Lipscomb tossed a one-hit, complete game shutout. He walked one and struck out 10. He also drove in the games’ only run in the third inning.
Seth Poe, Caldwell and Broome all had hits for the Purple Devils.
Locust Fork 5, SCCHS 3 (G)
The Lady Saints committed eight errors and they went on to lose to Locust Fork 5-3.
Shayla Ramsey tossed a complete game and gave up only one earned run on seven hits. She struck out one.
Locust Fork scored three runs in the top of the first inning and two runs in the fifth inning. SCCHS scored two runs in the second inning and one run in the third inning.
Kaylan McCombs had a two-run single while Kenzi Ledbetter had a run-scoring double.
