Oak Mountain scored four runs in the third inning and seven runs in the fourth inning as the Huskies fell 11-0.
Michael Gunter, 0-1, suffered the loss. He went three innings and gave up four runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out two.
Other pitchers for the Huskies were JD Brewster and Price Magnuson. At the plate for Hewitt-Trussville, Justin Grogan was 1-for-2.
Hewitt-Trussville head coach Tim Meacham said Oak Mountain played very well against his team.
“There will be better days for us,” Meacham said. “We are still a very good team.”
With the loss, the Huskies fell to 6-2.
Pleasant Grove 4, Hewitt-Trussville 1
Tyler Johnson lost for the first time this year on the mound as Pleasant Grove beat the Huskies 4-1. Johnson pitched into the seventh inning and gave up four runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out seven.
Meacham said Pleasant Grove’s pitcher tossed a very good game.
“Coach Lloyd does an excellent job with his players every year,” Meacham said.
It was the first time this season Hewitt-Trussville had lost back-to-back games as they fell to 6-3.
Hewitt-Trussville 5, Thompson 4
Jared Meads was perfect at the plate going 5-for-5 and scored the winning run in the eighth inning as the Huskies edged the Thompson Warriors 5-4.
Meads led off the eighth inning with a single and was on third base when Zane Hyde slapped the game-winning single to centerfield.
Jacob Nix started on the mound for the Huskies and went five innings. He gave up two runs on five hits while striking out eight. Josh Cobb pitched two innings and Magnuson (1-0) pitched the eighth inning to pick up the win.
Keith DePew was 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs while Andrew Shannon was 2-for-2 with a double.
“It was good to end the week with a win,” Meacham said. “I am proud of our players and pleased with how well they are playing.”
