It was a job well done by members of the Ashville High School Junior and Senior Beta Club. Back during the Christmas holidays, members of the Beta Club helped The Salvation Army raise money for needy people in Etowah County. These students did such a great job, they were awarded a first place trophy for their efforts.
Students stood in front of the Wal Mart in Attalla and rang the bell for The Salvation Army and raised $2008.74. That money was used to assist over 4,700 needy people at Christmas.
“This is the sixth year the Beta Club has helped in this project. Junior Beta Club sponsor Sharron Gibson said they had received awards in the past but this was the first year they had received first place for raising the most money.
“Our students spent two weeks ringing the bell and they averaged four hours per day,” Gibson said. “All total, they spent between 50 to 60 hours ringing the bell for a great cause.”
Gibson said she was very proud of each student who participated.
“They really enjoyed giving back to the community and being able to help,” she said.
“Each year, we have many students who love helping in this particular project,” said Senior Beta Club sponsor Ashleigh Lee. “It is just a great way of giving back to the community.”
Ashville High School principal Jason Baker said it was fantastic that these Beta Club students raised over $2,000.
“It is wonderful being the principal to such great students and teachers,” said Baker.
