When Christa Urban was named the new principal at Odenville Elementary School, it was only a matter of time before a new assistant principal would be named at the school. That took place Jan. 29, and the new assistant principal is Holli Hicks, who had been a special education teacher at St. Clair County High School in Odenville for the past two and a half years.
Before coming to the St. Clair County School System, Hicks was a special education teacher at Cleburne County High School for a few years.
Hicks is a 1992 graduate of Hewitt-Trussville High School. She knew from the time she was 5-years-old she wanted to be a teacher.
She received a bachelor’s degree in special education from the University of West Alabama and then a master’s degree in education administration from Jacksonville State University.
“This means the world to me and I love being here,” Hicks said. “I love kids and I love being around kids. I love being able to help teachers, and I love being able to work with the parents and community. Helping them help their children enjoy school and learn to love learning is important to me. I had good teachers when I was young, and they made a huge impact on me. I feel I can do the same and help these teachers with their own students.”
When asked if she wanted to be principal of her own school one day, Hicks said she was not sure yet.
“I will go wherever God leads me,” she said. “He led me here, and I’m very happy to be here. I look to continue to advance in education, I just don’t know what area yet.”
Hicks and her husband, Matt, have been married 15 years. They have three daughters, Gabby, 12, a sixth-grade student at Odenville Middle School; Shelby, 8, a third-grade student at Odenville Intermediate School; and Kylie, 5, a kindergarten student at OES.
OES Principal Christa Urban said she was extremely pleased to have Hicks as the assistant principal.
“She has been as asset to us,” Urban said. “She has come in and worked hard getting involved with the students and parents. I’m looking forward working with her for years to come.”
