Eleanor Clinkscales is at it again. She is helping the children throughout the county who are less fortunate. As fall starts turning into winter, Clinkscales knows these children need jackets and winter clothing.

Saturday, Clinkscales made sure needy children had adequate clothing as she held Jacket Day at Refuge Baptist Church. More than 60 children and several adults and families were provided with clothes and jackets.

“From 8 a.m. until noon, we had many families who came in,” Clinkscales said. “We had families who were simply in poverty who needed clothing. We also helped families who recently had lost clothing in home fires.”

Clinkscales said she also takes referrals from pastors of any church in St. Clair County.

Three truckloads of clothing were donated for this project.

“We had pants, shirts, shoes, boots, purses, dresses and jackets in all sizes,” Clinkscales said. “We also had bedskirts, bedspreads, sheets and blankets. We were delighted to help so many kids. We had a lot of help and had a great response from many churches.”

Clinkscales said the next project she is undertaking is collecting jackets for 217 Head Start children.

“I will give those away during the first week of November,” Clinkscales said. “I need size 4 and size 5 for both boys and girls.”
