Horizon Church in Moody will have its third annual “Rock the Lot” event Aug. 11 at the Food Giant parking lot in Moody from 10 a.m. to noon. Food Giant is located at 2200 Village Drive in Moody.

There will be 250 bags of school supplies given to school children on a first come, first serve basis.

Volunteer Troy Jones said this event directly benefits children attending Leeds, Moody, Margaret and Odenville Elementary schools.

There will also be live music from Horizon Praise band, face painting, fun activities for children and adults and free drinks provided by local merchants.

People wishing to participate and receive free school supplies just need to show up at the start of the event at 10 a.m., and sign up. Children must be present to receive supplies.

Jones said they are still in need of sponsors to help buy supplies.

“The more sponsors, the more supplies we can give out,” Jones said. “We also need people or businesses to help by contributing several other simple logistical items.”

If you wish to help in any way, contact Jones at 205-677-8434 and leave a message with your full contact information. You can also email at thehorizonexperience@gmail.com.

“This event has always been about helping the poor in our community by meeting a very specific need,” Jones said. “Every year, we meet people who otherwise would not be able to provide these basic supplies for their children. We want to make sure the people in our local area who need these school supplies the most, are aware of the program so they can take advantage of this opportunity. We have many local sponsors contributing to this event.”
