A sheriff’s deputy was injured Friday morning while clearing the scene of an accident on Interstate 20.

According to officials, Dep. Matt Mullinax with the sheriff’s department avoided serious injury at the scene of an 18-wheeler accident. Capt. Billy Murray said the rig was hooked to a wrecker when it came loose and rolled backwards. Mullinax’s leg was caught between the tractor-trailer and a firetruck.

Authorities had originally responded to the scene of a minor accident involving the tractor-trailer and a minor fuel spill. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
