Shane Traylor was recently named the new coach, and he has been a teacher and coach at Moody for the past 14 years.
Traylor is a 1991 graduate of Albertville High School. He played basketball at the University of Montevallo from 1991-95.
When he started at Moody, he was the varsity girls’ basketball coach for eight years. He was then named the B-team boys’ coach the next four years, and went back to coaching the varsity girls last year.
This will be his first chance to coach the varsity boys.
“I am very excited about this new challenge,” Traylor said. “I’ve been around the program for 14 years, helping off and on. I feel like I’m at a good spot, and feel like we can build a good program. Our goal is to make a good run in the county, area and make it to the state playoffs.”
Traylor earned his bachelor’s degree in education. He has taught physical education at all four Moody schools — from elementary to high school. For the previous 10 years, he has been the P.E. teacher at Moody Elementary School.
Moody High School Principal Cheryl Kuyk said Traylor would provide the basketball program with ethical leadership based on sound basketball principles.
“He will be an excellent mentor to our young men,” Kuyk said. “I am thrilled that Coach Traylor will be the Moody High School basketball coach.”
Traylor said he is very grateful to Kuyk for giving him this opportunity.
“I hope I represent Moody High School and the community in a positive way,” Traylor said.
Traylor and his wife Molly have been married eight years. They live in Moody.
