RIVERSIDE – A Riverside man was seriously injured in a one vehicle accident Tuesday morning.
Riverside Police Officer David Ashley identified the man as Willie Williamson, 54.
“I was at the city shop on Depot Street when I saw him come flying by City Hall at around 11 a.m.,” said Jeff Bullard, Riverside water and street superintendent. “When he hit the railroad tracks, he went airborne for 30-40 feet before hitting the ground. His truck struck a power pole, then slid about 150 before hitting a tree and coming to a stop.”
Riverside Volunteer Fire Department Capt. Adam Manning said both Riverside and Pell City firefighters responded quickly to the accident.
“We called for LifeSaver helicopter, but they could not fly due to the weather,” he said. “It took us about an hour to extricate him from the vehicle. He was transported by Regional Paramedical Services to University Hospital in Birmingham with significant trauma.”
Manning said Alabama Power Company employees also responded quickly to the scene, due to the downed power pole.
“I want to thank everyone for their quick response and good work,” he said.
UAB Spokeswoman Nicole Wyatt said Williamson was listed in serious condition Tuesday afternoon.
