The annual Pell City High School archery camp was held last week at the old high school gym. Instructor James Bryant said 15 students attended.

“The camp was a great success,” Bryant said. “It was a five-day event, where students received instruction on the history of archery, archery range setup, eye dominance, bow string, bow parts, arrow parts, 11 setups to archery success, safety rules, whistle commands, and demonstrations.”

Bryant said the students were excited about the camp and performed very well. Bryant even held a competition on the last day, where students competed for the honor of being the top male and top female shooter.

The top male shooter was Nicolas Campbell with a score of 248, while the top female shooter was Maggie Castleberry with a score of 243.

Rounding out the Top 10 included Riley Croft with a score of 240; Kason Fuller, 203; Daniel Graham, 194; Hanna Cain, 202; Allison Howard, 207; Fischer Houser, 130; Jared Stewart, 189; and Brandon Perry, 248.

Perry and Campbell tied, but Bryant said Campbell had  more 10’s and 9’s  overall than Perry, thus Campbell was awarded top male shooter.

Bryant praised each archer and each one received a certificate and medal. They all enjoyed a pizza party afterwards.

The Pell City High School archery team has qualified for the nationals in Louisviulle, Kentucky the past three years, and are looking to go for a fourth straight year next May.
