Moody girls get back-to-back wins over SC and Lincoln

The past two seasons have not been kind to the Moody girls basketball team. They were 1-49 headed into this year with a new coach in Rebecca Davis.
 
Recently, the Lady Blue Devils put together back-to-back wins, beating St. Clair County High and Lincoln.
 
The two wins gave the Moody girls a record of 2-6 headed into this past Monday’s game against Ashville — the team Davis played for in her high school days.
 
Moody lost to the Lady Bulldogs, but now have its focus on the Springville Christmas Classic. They open the tournament Dec. 27, with a 9 a.m. matchup against Anniston.
 
Moody 52, SCCHS 20
The losing streak came to an end when the Lady Blue Devils defeated St. Clair 52-20.
 
Moody was up 11-0 after the first quarter and 31-4 at halftime.
 
By the end of the third quarter, Moody’s lead was 44-18. They went on to win 52-20.
 
Leading Moody was Alexus Martin with 25 points. Micaela Robinson pumped in 11 points while Sara Crutchfield scored six points. Payton Swisher netted four points while Kayla Luster, Madison Dillashaw, and Ashton Gibson all scored two points each.
 
Davis called the win a huge relief.
 
“We have been close so many times, but never turned the corner,” Davis said. “The win made a huge difference.”
 
Moody 47, Lincoln 10
The win over St. Clair did make a difference as the Lady Blue Devils won their next game 47-20 over Lincoln.
 
Moody led 17-3 after the first quarter and 34-6 at halftime.
 
They won the scoring battle in the second half also 13-4 to make the final score 47-10.
 
Robinson led Moody with 19 points. Martin added nine points while Luster finished the game with eight points. Crutchfield netted four points while Brooklyn Graff had three points. Swisher scored two points.
 
“We’re ready to turn the corner,” Davis said.
