The Moody Lady Blue Devils opened up the volleyball season with victories over Leeds and Shelby County last week at home in a tri-match.
They then played in a tournament at Calera Saturday, where they went 2-2.
They are currently 4-2 on the season.
Moody 25-25, Leeds 17-18
Moody defeated Leeds, 25-17 and 25-18.
Alexus Martin led the Moody offense with 14 kills. Taylor Wagnon had nine assists while Faith Webb had seven digs. Payton Swisher had six digs.
Leading Leeds was Tyra Middlebrook with four kills, four blocks, and five digs. Jessica Bullig had four kills and three blocks while Elizabeth McDanal had seven digs. Alessandra Kennedy had 11 assists.
Moody 25-25, Shelby Co. 11-18
Leeds 25-12-15, Shelby Co. 21-25-7
Against Shelby County, Moody won again in straight games 25-11, 25-18. Martin had 14 kills and Webb had 12 digs.
“I was glad our team played hard,” Moody coach Raphael Greaux said. “The girls did a pretty good job in the opening games of our volleyball season.”
Leeds then picked up its first victory of the season as they defeated Shelby County, 25-21, 12-25 and 15-7.
Kennedy led the Green Wave with 13 assists and five aces. Middlebrook had six kills, five blocks and five digs while Bullig had four kills, three blocks and eight aces. McDanal finished the match with eight digs.
Indian Springs 19-25-15, Moody 25-18-10
The first loss of the season for Moody came against Indian Springs. The Lady Blue Devils won the first game, 25-19, but lost the next two games, 25-18 and 15-10.
For Moody, Martin had 10 kills and five digs while Webb had five digs.
“Things did not start out well for us,” Greaux said. “We struggled against Indian Springs because we ended up making twice as many errors as we made good plays. It is impossible to win that way.”
Moody 25-29, Shelby Co. 17-27
For the second time this season, Moody defeated Shelby County, this time by a score of 25-17 and 29-27.
Martin had five kills while Wagnon had six assists. Webb had five digs.
Moody 20-25-15, Chilton Co. 25-11-3
Greaux said the team started slowly against Chilton County but managed to take care of business. They defeated Chilton County in three games. The Blue Devils lost the first game 25-20, but fought back to win the next two games, 25-11 and 15-3.
Martin led Moody with eight kills. Wagnon had nine assists while Payton Swisher had six serving aces.
Moody 25-25, Calera 14-15
In the semifinals game, Moody lost to Calera 25-14 and 25-15.
“We played a very tough opponent,” Greaux said. “They had more offensive options than we did. We could not get our offense going and our defense struggled a little.”
