When Eleanor Clinkscales sat down Sunday to have Easter dinner with her family, she had a smile on her face.

The smile was due to being with her family on a special holiday, but the smile also reminded her that she and several volunteers helped to feed 170 families this Easter season.

Last week, Clinkscales and volunteers gathered at Refuge Baptist Church to stock food baskets to pass out all over St. Clair County.

The baskets were filled with a ham, green beans, macaroni and cheese, corn, sweet potatoes, cake mix, pineapple and rolls.

Churches involved in helping provide food included Broken Arrow Baptist Church, Coosa Valley Baptist Church, Gray’s Chapel Baptist Church, Lawley’s Chapel Methodist Church, Lakewood Presbyterian Church, Lister Memorial Baptist Church, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill Methodist Mission, Odenville Presbyterian Church, Refuge Baptist Church and Riverside Baptist Church.

Clinkscales noted that the 170 food baskets were delivered to every part of St. Clair County.

“I am so glad to know there were 170 families who had Easter food,” Clinkscales said. “God provides. He always has and always will. He said in His Word that He will supply our needs and we have to depend on that.”

Clinkscales said the last time she looked, God still worked through people, and she is so very thankful for the many volunteers who help her.

Her delivery team for this project consisted of Tommy Clinkscales, Robert Tarr, Joan Burchfield, Stephanie Sawyer, Inez Burchfield, Sandi Gordon and Rev. Bobby Parker.

“We all volunteer, and none of us gets paid any money,” Clinkscales said. “They do it because they love God first, and because they love the poor.”

Clinkscales said she has been helping the needy for over 26 years now, and has no plans of slowing down even though she is 80 years old.
