It appears St. Clair County’s new hospital is coming a step nearer to fruition. No one has filed opposition to the hospital’s application for a Certificate of Need, a requirement in building the new hospital. Now, officials are preparing for a hearing on the Certificate of Need to be held in Montgomery in August, moving them closer to building a new facility.
Plans call for a 40-bed hospital on 35 acres, along with a professional office building. It is seen as the impetus for a Veteran’s Administration nursing home that has already announced on an adjoining site, and neighboring Jefferson State Community College is considering adding a nursing program to its Pell City curriculum.
All of the plans point toward a tremendous opportunity for growth in the region, and they ought to be supported. With that kind of positive growth and the ability to serve a sizable segment of the population with all of their services, it needs to be on the fast track.
We stand squarely behind officials pushing the overall plan and urge that they keep heading in the right direction. The potential is more than just a little promising, and it is precisely the kind of growth the fastest growing county in the state should pursue right now to keep pace with the needs of its citizens.
