The deadline to qualify to run for office in towns and cities across St. Clair County is July 15. Council and mayor seats are up for election, and incumbents and challengers alike are answering the call. They are stepping forward with ideas of what it will take to lead their communities into the future. And voters should listen. On Aug. 26, voters will have their say on who makes the best argument for leadership, by casting their votes. We commend all who have already announced their candidacies and those who will make it official in the next few days because they care enough to get involved. We encourage voters to get involved, too, exercising their right as citizens to express their opinion with their vote. This is democracy in action, and we hope all will participate.
