St. Clair County commissioners are in the midst of redrawing district lines for the fastest growing county in the state, hoping to make voting places more convenient to the county’s citizens. The process in recent years has been confusing at best with voters on one side of a road voting at one precinct and their neighbor across the road voting at another. Others face the dilemma of driving past the polling place closest to their home to vote in their designated polling place farther away.
We encourage the commission to clear up the confusion while ensuring the lines are drawn fairly, not dividing districts for political purposes.
If they are successful in meeting those benchmarks, it will be a better voting process next time around.
