Tip of the hat

04-09-2008

Ten St. Clair County fire departments are getting involved to help prevent tragedies that result from fires. In the past six months, the county has experienced a number of fire fatalities that might have been avoided if smoke alarms had been installed in those homes.

The 10 have joined a movement called, “Get Alarmed Alabama,” which will help provide and install free smoke detectors.

They want to make sure that every home not only has a smoke alarm, but that they are installed properly.

When the first hint of a fire arises, the smoke alarm is the best early warning. And we thank firefighters across the county who are joining in the effort to ensure that St. Clair Countians are protected.
