It is encouraging to see that the St. Clair Sheriff’s Department and Springville Police Department know the value in regional cooperation when it comes to fighting violent crime.Violent crime knows no border lines, and sometimes departments are simply stretched too thin to combat their community problems by themselves.
And that’s precisely the impetus for the Safe Streets Task Force, which involves 10 counties and personnel from each that will help fight violent crime across the area.
As Springville Police Chief Ron Black put it, “Every case my officer makes may not be a Springville case, but most of them will be. We’ll just be making these cases with more resources at our disposal.”
Every agency taking part in the task force will presents its five worst problems, and the task force helps develop a plan of action to combat them.
It is a neighbor-helping-neighbor approach to law enforcement, and it has the potential to bring about positive change for communities across those 10 counties involved.
We commend St. Clair law enforcement for getting involved. It should indeed make the county’s streets safer places for its citizens.
