EMLEN MACDOUGAL "MAC" BAILEY

PELL CITY — Emlen MacDougal "Mac" Bailey, age 80, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008 at his home. Mac is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Kathryn "Ryn" Bailey; daughters, Kathryn Theodora "Teddy" Bailey, Clara Victoria Bailey and Robin Allen Bailey; son, Emlen M. Bailey II; daughter-in-law, Vickey G. Bailey; son-in-law, Robert Manthey; grandson, Emlen M. Bailey III; and granddaughter, Emily Ryn Bailey. Mac served in the Naval Air Force during WWII. He graduated from Auburn University in 1952 in building construction. During his career he worked in many places around the world including Mexico, Venezuela, Holland, Saudia Arabia and the Far East. After retiring, he spent 20 years playing golf, gardening and making furniture for his family. Mac will be greatly missed. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City is in charge of the arrangements.

DORIS ELIZABETH BROWN

ODENVILLE — Doris Elizabeth Brown, age 82, died April 24, 2008. She is survived by her daughters, Peggy Strawbridge (Bobby), Pat Lovell (Mike), Kaye Glidewell (Garry); sons, Linsey Brown (Jewell), Jimmy Brown (Carmen); sister, Dorothy Eleanor Williams; grandchildren, Cassey Brown, Linda Pitts, Eugene Brown, James Strawbridge, Deborah Shoffner, Scott Strawbridge, John Lovell, Jason Glidewell, Janson Glidewell, Jamason Glidewell, Briley Glidewell, Grant Montgomery, Carson Montgomery; great grandchildren, Tiffany Horton, Brandy Nichols, Trent Brown, Kaila Brown, Cody Brown, Caden Shoffner, Alexis Glidewell, Shelby Strawbridge, Anna Strawbridge, Christa Strawbridge, Katelyn Strawbridge, Miranda Strawbridge, Logan Montgomery, Aidan Montgomery, McKenzie Montgomery, McKenley Montgomery; and great-great grandchild, Kailyn Horton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Brown; son, A.E. "Jackie" Brown; grandson, Michael Lovell; and great granddaughter, Angel Strawbridge. She was a member of Sanie Baptist Church, employed with Cook Springs Nursing Home and Trussville Nursing Home. Services were held Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds Chapel with burial in Branchville Cemetery in Odenville. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds directed.

LORANZA DOWE CULPEPPER

PELL CITY — Funeral services for Mr. Loranza Dowe Culpepper, 86, were Tuesday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Chapel, Pell City. Interment was in Seddon Cemetery. Mr. Culpepper died Monday, April 28, 2008. He is survived by two daughters, Deanna (Austin) Melvin, Debbie (Dave) Gatti; one sister, Dean (Tom) Sircy; grandchildren, Deena (Ken) Thomas, Greg (Deb) Cash; great grandchildren, Hollie Thomas, Trent Thomas, Tyler Cash, Jody Cash, Paeton Cash; and great-great granddaughter, Maycie Thomas. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.

CATHY L. DAILEY

TRUSSVILLE — Cathy L. Dailey, age 50, died Thursday, April 24, 2008. She is survived by her husband, Terry R. Dailey; daughter Tabitha Hanner (Jason); son, Tony Dailey (Angie); father and stepmother, J.D. and Marie Latta; sister, Sheila Carroll (David); brothers, Don Latta (Janet), Rick Latta; grandchildren, Gabriella, Isabella, Sophia; and one grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Latta. She was a member of Moody First Baptist Church and taught pre-school for 16 years at Bethel Wee Care. Services were held Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home Leeds Chapel. Burial was in Sulphur Springs Cemetery. Kilgroe Funeral Home Leeds directed.

JERRY EDWARD GLASS

RIVERSIDE — Infant Jerry Edward Glass died Friday, April 25, 2008. He is survived by his parents, Billy Joe and Olivia Glass; grandparents, Leslie and Greg Pesnell, Gladys Grimes, Curtis Clow, James Grimes and Kent Franklin. Services were held Monday, April 28, 2008 at 12 noon at Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds directed.

EVERETT STERLING "BUD" HOWARD

BIRMINGHAM — Everett Sterling "Bud" Howard, age 75, died Sunday, April 27, 2008. He is survived by daughters, Cathy Bradshaw (Jay) and Nancy Dawson; sons, Ronnie Hammontree, Ricky Hammontree, James Howard (Toni), Michael Howard (Marie), Terry Elmore (Tonya), Greg Howard (Beth), Steven Howard (Paula), Wayne Howard (Tracy); sisters, Margie Parker (Renard), Vonnie Mae Cook and Fay Parker (Jerry); 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Marshall Howard; mother, Lilly Mae Howard; wife, Charlotte Ann Howard; and son, Michael Elmore. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and owner of Howard Roofing and General Repair. Services were held Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds Chapel, with burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds directed.

RODNEY FREEMAN LAMBERT

JACKSONVILLE — Funeral service for Rodney Freeman Lambert, 63, was Thursday, April 24, at 11 a.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel. the Rev. Garry Brown officiated. Burial was in Nances Creek Cemetery. Mr. Lambert died Monday, April 21, 2008 at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Laverne Lambert of Jacksonville; three sons, Rodney Lambert, Jr. and his wife Manya of Jasper, Tenn., Raymond Lambert of Ocean Springs, MS and Patrick Lambert and his wife Cheryl of Wellington; his mother, Geneva Lambert of Pell City; two sisters, Sylvia Staples of Pell City and Deborah Champion and her husband Tony of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandsons, two granddaughters, one great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Lambert was a Christian who attended Nances Creek Baptist Church for more than 20 years. An avid hunter and all around outdoorsman, he worked at Ft. McClellan as a firefighter for 22 years. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was a member of Hiram Lodge #42 F&AM. W. L. "CHICK" MERKL, JR.

RAGLAND — Memorial services for W. L. "Chick" Merkl, Jr., were Saturday, April 26, 2008, 2 p.m. at Dry Valley Baptist Church with President Steve Parker and The Rev. Glen Horn officiating. Burial was in Dry Valley Baptist Cemetery. Mr. Merkl died Thursday, April 24, 2008 in Pell City, Ala. He was a native of Lincoln, resident of Atlanta and Smyra, Ga. for 39 years. He was retired from LockHeed Aircraft. He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a lifetime member of Ragland V.F.W. Post 6652. Mr. Merkl is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. Merkl of Ragland; daughter & son-in-law, Brenda and David Peacock of Kennesaw, Ga.; brother, Earl Cooper of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; sister, Peggy Crowder of Smyra, Ga.; 6 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Usrey Brown-Service Funeral Home was in charge of the service.

MANDY CLEO PALMER

PELL CITY — Services for Mrs. Mandy Cleo Palmer, 88, is Thursday, May 1, at 11 a.m. at Wattsville Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Ritch and the Rev. Larry Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Palmer died Saturday, April 26, 2008 in Pell City. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Curtis Palmer; and by a son, Herman Curtis Palmer. She is survived by daughters, Martha Lowery of Pell City, Betty Anderson of Snead; son, Arthur "Harry" Palmer of Watauga, Texas; sisters, Edith Brasher of Hueytown, Vera Dell Morgan of Centerpoint; brothers, Arthur J. Ritch of Washington, Ray Ritch of Nauvoo, Bill Ritch of Utah, Doyle Ritch of Lilburn, Ga.; 13 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct.

JAMES RANDALL PRICE JR.

PELL CITY — Funeral services for James Randall Price Jr., 21, will be Thursday, May 1, at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church. Interment will be in Boykin-Truitt Cemetery. Mr. Price passed away Sunday, April 21, 2008. James was a wonderful Christian man, a terrific husband, a great son, the best brother and you would never find a more loyal friend. He loved his dog, Bama. He was employed by Engle and Associates in Birmingham and was loved by all of his co-workers. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School. He graduated from Pell City High School in 2004 and was attending Jeff State. He is survived by his wife, Ashlie Brooke Price; parents, James (Randy) and Edna Price Sr. and Maria Price; grandparents, Arlen and Peggy Price, John Fox and Martha Ann Wheatley and Lucille and Louie Jones; sister, Angela Lynn Price; sisters-in-law, Andrea Mitchell, Amie Mitchell and Briana Hunt; brother-in-law, Trey Hunt; special family friends, Leo and Kitty Engle; two honorary brothers, Matt Pope and Garett Pesnell; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Leslie Hunt; and a host of aunts, uncles, extended family and many friends who loved him very much.

Pallbearers are Matthew Pope, Garett Pesnell, Dax Davies, Chris Callahan, Andrew Whitehead, Miles Franklin, Tommy Sykes and Michael Price Jr. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the services.
