OZELLA ABNEY

ASHVILLE — Funeral services for Ozella Abney, 92, was Friday, April 18, at 2 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Ms. Abney died Tuesday, April 15, 2008. She is survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many others that she has touched with her love. She is also survived by a son, Richard (Pamela) Newell; nine daughters, Mary Clements, Ann Kay, Teresa Bice, Dianna Jackson, Patty Bice, Linda Williams, Mildred Isabell, Pat Taylor and Sheila Adams; brother, Louie Jackson; and sister, Becky Bice. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed the services.

J.T. ALVERSON

PELL CITY — Funeral services for J.T. Alverson, 73, were Friday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at Kilgroe Chapel, Pell City. Interment was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Mr. Alverson died Wednesday, March 19, 2008. He is survived by a son, John (Bubba) Alverson; two daughters, Florence Marie Peoples, Neva Wiley; two brothers, Frank (Skeet) Alverson, Lester Alverson; two sisters, Dot McCullough, Sally Jo Morrow; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; special nephew, Richard Morrow; and special friend, Bernice Voss. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed.

VENA NADINE BATES

STEELE — Funeral service for Vena Nadine Bates, 84, was Monday, April 21, at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. Bro. Johnny Wilson and Bro. Joe Wise officiated. Burial was in Bethel Baptist Cemetery. Mrs. Bates died April 19, 2008. Mrs. Bates was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Steele. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She was a friend to everyone and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elva Swindall; son-in-law, Luther Marlon Holloway; sisters, Annie Mae Nelson, Flora Dell Nelson; and brothers-in-law, Virgil Nelson and John Nelson. She is survived by daughters, Betty Holloway of Trussville, Pat (John) Colvert of Pell City; brother, John (Jessie) Swindall of Ohatchee; sister, Ruth (Jimmy) Barnes of Steele; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the Rev. Cobb Hallmark, great grandsons and the Bethel Senior Ladies Sunday School Class. Special thanks to Dr. Sanchetti, Dr. B.J. Patel and the nurses and staff of the 3rd floor at Riverview Regional Medical Center. Morgan Funeral Chapel directed the service.

JOHNNY DALE BOWMAN

PELL CITY — Graveside service for Johnny Dale Bowman, 53, was Friday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Mr. Bowman died Tuesday, April 15, 2008. He is survived by a son, Shannon Dale "Codd" (Melissa) Bowman; daughter, Dusty Lynn Bowman; mother, Vera Mae Bowman; three brothers, Dennis Ray, Trent Doyle and Danny Lee Bowman; sister, Wanda Joyce "Peanut" Bullard; eight grandchildren, Shelbie Carpenter, Kelsea Castleberry, Lexus and Taylen Bowman, Madison Castleberry, Lawson Bowman, Brent Castleberry and Logan Bowman. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.

STEPHEN WAYNE BUTRICK

HUEYTOWN — Funeral services for Stephen Wayne Butrick, 54, were Friday, April 18, at 3 p.m. at Pell City Pentecost Church. Interment was at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Mr. Butrick died Sunday, April 13, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Donna Butrick; three daughters, Brenda Nock, Christie Mount and Tina Butrick; sister, Vickie Price; and seven grandchildren. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed the services.

MARY CATHERINE "CATHY" GORDON

RAGLAND — Funeral service for Mary Catherine "Cathy" Gordon, 50, will be Thursday, April 24, at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Bro. Martin Poe officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Mrs. Gordon died Sunday, April 20, 2008 in Ragland. She is survived by her husband, Carlos Reed; daughter, Niki Smith (Johnny) of Columbus, OH; son, Jason Gordon (Christi) of Ohatchee; three sisters, four brothers; grandchildren, Kayla, Michael, Zachary, Brandon and Jacob. Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

PAUL LEWIS GRANT

PELL CITY — Paul Lewis Grant, 72, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008. He was born in Saginaw, Mich., lived the majority of his life in Mojave, Calif., and the final year of his life with his son, Trampes in Pell City. He was preceded in death by his parents, LaVern Henry Grant and Marcielle Catherine Ditmar. Mr. Grant is survived by two sons, Tate LaVern Grant and Trampes Evert (Deborah) Grant; daughter, Tina Lee Grant; brother, Terry Grant; sister, Lavelle Bailey; and three grandchildren, Koreena Grant, Camden Furry and Kelsey Lyn Grant. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City is in charge of arrangements.

ROSETTA HAMMETT LAWLEY

ASHVILLE — Graveside service for Mrs. Rosetta Hammett Lawley, 97, was Monday, April 21, at 2 p.m. at St. Clair Memorial Gardens. the Rev. Vint Arnold officiated. Mrs. Lawley died Friday, April 18, 2008 at NHC in Anniston. Mrs. Lawley lived in Shoal Creek Valley in Ashville for 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Porter Eugene Lawley. She is survived by a son, Ellis Lawley and wife Diane of Ashville; daughters, Miriam Wilkes and her husband John of Sunset Beach, NC, Joyce Ten Eyke and her husband Dick of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Diane Picollo, Dale Williams, Johnny Wilkes, Chris Wilkes, Leah Baker, Libby Perry, Adam Lawley, Phil Campbell, Gary Campbell, Jason Campbell, Lisa Willis; and 19 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Adam Lawley, DeWayne Baker, John Perry, Dustin Baker, Jacob Baker, Micah Baker. Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.
