In conjunction with the Dizzy Dean World Series, Moody’s Miracle League held its own version of a World Series where everyone was a winner. It is the fifth consecutive year for the Miracle League to have a World Series. Several teams from across the state participated in the Miracle League this year.Moody Councilman Phillip Deason is over the Miracle League and said that one field compliments the whole park.
“There were several of us who were instrumental in getting the Miracle League here in Moody,” Deason said. “With this field, we have given precious children and adults the chance to play just like any other boy and girl. This is their World Series. Just because someone may be in a wheelchair does not mean they can’t get out there and have fun just like the rest of these kids.”
Johnny Franklin, director of the Huntsville Miracle League, brought two teams to Moody for the World Series.
“It’s incredible for the two teams in Huntsville to travel and come here,” Franklin said. “They enjoy playing on their home field but they see their brothers and sisters get to travel to other sites to play ball. For them to be able to go to the World Series is an event they have planned for the past six weeks and we’ve built it up for them. It’s a huge event for them.”
Deason said it has been a fast five years but a very rewarding five years.
“Rewarding by seeing everything Moody has put together and just the support from all these people,” Deason said.
Moody’s Gentry Jordan says the Miracle League Field is one of the greatest things to happen to him. He is 45 years old and has played at the field since day one.
“This field is for people who are handicapped,” Jordan said.
Moody Mayor Joe Lee said he watched games at the Miracle League Saturday and it was just a blessing to the city.
“If you think you are having a bad day, just come down to the Miracle League and it will touch your heart just to watch the kids play,” Lee said.
