St. Clair Schools Superintendent Jenny Seals is resting comfortably after having open-heart surgery July 15 at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden.Assistant Superintendent John Moore said last week that Seals was with her son Bradley at Auburn for new student orientation July 11-12 when she started having chest pains and feeling faint. She decided to get it checked out as soon as she returned home.
On Monday, July 14, Seals, who is 51 years old, went for tests and she was admitted immediately and had surgery the following day.
“The surgery went as planned,” Moore said. “Her prognosis is excellent and her spirits are very high. She did have one artery blocked but she went though the surgery well. She is recovering as expected.”
Moore visited with Seals two days after her surgery and said her spirits were excellent.
“She told me she felt relieved that all went well,” Moore said. “If all continues to go well, she plans on being back at work in four weeks. She looked great and her color was good.”
Moore is quick to let people know she did not have a heart attack.
“She is going to be fine,” he said. “The surgery last 90 minutes and she is up and walking and doing good. We are all prayerful for a speedy recovery. Jenny told me she appreciates everyone’s prayers, flowers and cards. She misses us already.”
Seals has been superintendent of the St. Clair County School System since Jan. 1, 2007.
