St. Clair County Board of Education member Terry Brasher has resigned from his board seat and the BOE accepted his resignation Monday during its regular meeting. Brasher, who has held the Odenville district seat for almost six years, cited working out of town and not being able to be at meetings the main reason for stepping aside. He was not present at Monday’s meeting.
Brasher did not seek re-election this year and Allison Gray defeated David Nicely for the Odenville district seat in the June election. She faces no opposition in November and the board agreed Monday to appoint Gray to fill Brasher’s unexpired term contingent of her being sworn in Aug. 4.
“I’m excited about starting to work,” said Gray, who was present at the meeting. “I will be trying to catch myself up with current issues the BOE is facing. I’m available for anyone who needs to talk to me concerning the St. Clair County System.”
Board members expressed gratitude to Brasher for his years of service to his community and the school system.
“As excited as we are to have Mrs. Gray join us, it has been a pleasure working with Mr. Brasher,” said board member Terry Green. “He has been an outstanding board member.”
Board member John DeGaris said Brasher had a great quality as a board member and that was integrity.
In another matter, the BOE approved the architects for the two new schools that are going up in the county. Lathan Associates Architects is the architect for the new K-5 school in Margaret while McKee Associates is the architect for a new 4-6 grade school in Moody.
Both architects said both schools could be built at an estimated cost of $10 million each.
