Ashville Police Chief Dennis Matthews has earned a certificate in Police Management, successfully completing the first 40 hours of the Law Enforcement Executive Program. The University Partnership jointly administers the program, consisting of specialized, executive-level training, for Alabama Continuing Education and the Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police.
“This is a mark of success for Chief Matthews as well as for the City of Ashville for its support of the advancement of law enforcement management principles,” said Belinda Blackburn, director of Continuing Education at Jacksonville State University and UPACE partner.
Matthews received his certification and recognition at the annual Association of Police Chief’s Conference June 30, in Mobile.
In the program, Matthews took courses in managing for effectiveness, dealing effectively with the external environment, effective management and supervisory techniques for the police executive, strategic planning for your department, and generational differences and assessments.
The UPACE Partnership is made up of Jacksonville State University; Troy University, Dothan; and the University of North Alabama. Its purpose is to make continuing education programs available for agencies and associations across the state.
