After more years than most officials can count, the city of Springville is receiving the needed funds to cover the ditches in front of the middle school.“Through the efforts of Congressman Spencer Bachus and Senator Jeff Sessions, we’re getting $1 million in federal highway dollars to finally cover the drainage ditch in front of the school,” Mayor Ricky Buckner said. “This ditch problem has been going on for many, many years and a solution is finally going to be funded.”
The bill including the funding has made it safely through the house and senate and awaits President George Bush’s signature. He is expected to sign the bill in the next couple of weeks.
Buckner said the funds would be used to repair, install, and cover the large drainage ditch in front of Springville Middle School along U.S. 11.
“On behalf of the City of Springville and its citizens, we are overjoyed with the news of Congressman Spencer Bachus helping our city receive $1 million in the Federal Highway Transportation Bill,” Buckner said. “This $1 million expenditure will remedy an issue that has been a hazard for several years. Thanks to Congressman Bachus and the present administration’s attention to the safety of our children, this problem will now be solved.”
Buckner said the money would be disbursed to the Alabama Department of Transportation and the project would have to be completed by 2011.
